Tasmania's Fly Derwent and New Zealand marine innovator Vessev are introducing a new fleet of hydrofoil boats on the River Derwent, expected to arrive early 2027.

Discover a new category of sustainable urban water transport.

Tasmania operates at close to 100% renewable electricity generation over a typical year, powered predominantly by hydropower, and complemented by wind and solar.

Fly Derwent and Vessev are using this same grid to power a new fleet of hydrofoil vessels in the River Derwent.

Vessev’s hydrofoiling boats improve efficiency by up to three times compared to conventional boats. Cruising at around 25 knots (46km/h) and producing virtually no wake while foiling, they can operate at these speeds and higher without damaging the Derwent's sensitive riverbanks.
